“The universe is all there is, all there was, and all there will ever be.”

That was the opening line to Carl Sagan's amazing TV series, "Cosmos." I can't believe I didn't mention this last week, but The Science Channel (if you get it on cable) is reshowing the whole series every Tuesday at 9 in commemoration of its 25th anniversary.

I wasn't actually alive yet (or at least was an infant) when the series came out, so I never got to see it when it originally aired. But Carl Sagan was the person who got me interested in popularizing science. His books are still some of the most acccesible and engaging works on science written for the public at large. I highly recommend them.

The show, even with its cheesy 70s sets and special effects, is still gripping. To hear Sagan describe all the wonders of the universe is... I can't even think of a word for it. But every time I watch, it renews my fascination with science and sends a chill up my spine. (Super corny, I know.) As Sagan pointed out in one of his books, who needs all the wacky imaginings of pseudoscience when there are so many amazing and mind-boggling things in real science?
